Winter weekend in the mountains.

Sometimes it's nice to just get away and have a change of scenery even if it is only for a weekend. I grasp every fleeting moment and do my best to be mindful. Escaping to nature makes that so easy to do. The static in my mind can get eruptive sometimes and it is so important to take the time to turn the volume down and tune in. For me, running away to the mountains is a spiritual revolution to reset and recharge.

For the past 7 years, I have been living in an eternal summer, which means winter has become a guilty little pleasure. Winter sometimes gets overlooked as a miserable season with exception to the holidays, but it holds so much beauty within its bare bones. Early mornings with shimmering frost coating the earth's surface, the smell of sharp cool air, and the short days that make every minute precious. I cherish every tender moment that the cooler seasons offer me in my short time experiencing them.

With fall fading into winter, every day promises to be shorter than the last. The night sky creeps in earlier and earlier. This is a time to take care of your body. Check in, cozy up, move slower. Asheville was the perfect spot to do those things. The morning sun peeks over those rolling hills bringing a warm hand brushing against your skin. The bitter cold makes me appreciate that brief moment of warmth. There are so many opportunities to strengthen your bonds with nature, as well as the ones we love.

I am lucky that I got to spend this cheeky, little weekend with the person I love and our sweet pup. Asheville always helps us create memories that we will forever look back on to brighten our hearts. This weekend filled with love, adventure, and joy was well worth the 7 hour drive. Until we meet again, Asheville.
